Olivia Gualinga (right),
one of the many women potters in Jatun Molino, places a few pieces of
unfired dry pottery in and around the family cooking fire. All of the
decoration has already been done using colored clay slips. The pottery
is slowly preheated and will get very dry, allowing it to be quickly fired
in an open bonfire. In the background (upper right) are large pottery
jars used to ferment chicha, a type of beer made from yuca (manioc).
